Fernando Llorente has told Cadena Ser that Harry Kane has surprised him more than anyone at Tottenham and that the England star is clearly among the best three strikers on the planet.

Llorente, a former Spain international striker, refused to be drawn on speculation linking Kane with Real Madrid but said his teammate could play for any team in the world.

Llorente joined Spurs from Swansea in August to be Kane’s deputy and he has been hugely impressed with the 24-year-old, who finished 2017 with more goals than anyone else in elite European football.

“He is the player that has surprised me the most out of all of them [at Tottenham],” Llorente said. “He is playing incredible football. I have very clear in my mind that he is among the three best strikers in the world.

“He scores many goals. He has many qualities. He is a centre-forward that plays very well with his back to the goal. He is strong, powerful, he can score many, many goals. You give him a second with space and he scores. He is spectacular.

“He is at an incredible level. He is scoring many goals and his confidence right now is very high. I think a player like him would fit in in any team in the world.”

Kane’s relentless form and fitness has left Llorente struggling for minutes at Spurs and the 32-year-old has started just six times, and only once in the Premier League.

Regardless, the former Athletic Bilbao and Juventus forward says he is happy at the club and loves playing in the Premier League, even during the hectic Christmas and New Year period when the top European leagues take a winter break.

“I’m very happy where I am for the time being. I like how we work. I’m happy training. I’m fit and I hope I can stay at this level for a long time and enjoy playing football, which is what I love,” Llorente said.

“[Spurs manager Mauricio] Pochettino does a great job. He is spectacular.

“It’s a spectacular league. There is a lot of intensity, any team can surprise you and beat you. You have to go all out in every game and not relax for a second. The level that I’m finding in the Premier League is very high.

“[Festive football] is a tradition and it shouldn’t be changed. We have to adapt to it. The calendar is very tight and we had a game two days after playing one so there isn’t much time to recover, but we have to do things well, rest as much as you can in order to be ready for every game.

He added: “We started the season very well. We have proved at certain times of the season a very high level, for example against Real Madrid. When we play our best football we are capable of beating anyone. We suffered a drop after losing against Manchester United and it has been tough in the Premier League.

“We have lost many points. Manchester United and Chelsea have more points than us but we are there in the fighting. There is still a long way to go. If we are capable of having continuity, we can succeed in finishing [in the top four].”
