Bucs safety T.J. Ward arrested on marijuana possession charge

T.J. Ward was arrested Wednesday in Tampa Bay on an outstanding warrant relating to a previous arrest.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Department, the Buccaneers safety was taken into custody at 8:11 a.m ET and faces a felony count of possession of marijuana in addition to a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Ward was released three hours later just before noon after posting $2,500 bond.

The Tampa Bay Times reports that Ward was initially arrested Oct. 25 prior to the team’s Week 8 loss to the Panthers. Although he was not home at the time, a woman allowed police to enter his apartment when they responded to an alarm and claimed the 99.9 grams of marijuana seen “in plain view” belonged to Ward.

The woman, identified in the report as Ciera Woody, later claimed the marijuana was hers and faces the same felony possession charge as Ward.

While being interviewed by police, Ward admitted he was aware of the marijuana inside the jars and said “he occasionally smoked out of.”

Despite the arrest being unreported, the team was aware of the incident when it occurred.

Ward, 31, signed a one-year deal worth $5 million with the Bucs last September following his release from the Broncos. He started just five games for Tampa Bay this season and is set to hit free agency in March.
